Aviation Tire Marking
Aircraft Tire Size
Aircraft Tire Marking (Starting in 2024)
Aircraft Tire Sizing
Red Dot/Light Dot
The red balance mark or dot on aircraft tires indicates the tire's light dot. This provides a reference for the wheel hub, ensuring that the hub's light dot aligns with the tire's light dot during tire assembly.
Green Dot/Vent
This is used to release accumulated air in the tire's tread layers to prevent internal delamination.
Red Dot on Aircraft Tires
It is not uncommon for the red balance dot on a serviceable tire to be displaced, damaged, or missing. The loss of the red dot/balance mark on a serviceable tire should not be a reason for disassembly.
>If there is no red dot on the tire, locate the balance tab in the inner liner and align this area with the valve core/light dot on the wheel hub.
> > If there is no balance tab in the tire, align the center of the tire's serial number (between the 4th and 5th digits) with the valve core/light dot on the wheel hub.
