ndustry-First Integrated Solution
The 11.6-inch AXIS display offers optional TSO-certified, fully integrated avionics suites—including IFR GPS, VHF comms, radio navigation, and an audio panel—all within a single screen. This results in a cleaner cockpit layout, reduced retrofit costs, and simplified installation.
✦ VHF Comms: 10-watt transmit power, 8.33 kHz channel spacing, and simultaneous standby frequency monitoring, allowing pilots to listen to the active ATC frequency while keeping an ear on the standby channel;
✦ Cross-platform Chart/Flight Plan Sharing: Share flight plans across multiple screens and load waypoints, VORs, holding patterns, and GPS/ILS approaches with a single touch;
✦ Built-in 4-place audio panel: Features dual-radio switching (supporting one external radio), comms recording playback, and Bluetooth connectivity for music streaming and phone calls.
The 11.6-inch certified version is available in three TSO-certified models:
1.Basic: PFD/MFD display only;
2.GPS/COMM: Built-in IFR GPS + VHF Comms + Audio Panel;
3.GPS/NAV/COMM: IFR GPS, NAV, COMM, and Audio Panel. Experimental and Light Sport Aircraft (LSA) can choose between the 11.6-inch certified version or a non-TSO version designed specifically for experimental aircraft.
Comprehensive Flight Situational Awareness
The PFD (Primary Flight Display) presents critical information at a glance, including primary flight data and an HSI (Horizontal Situation Indicator) that can overlay map or traffic views. Widgets on the PFD provide additional situational awareness, displaying MFD functions—such as maps, flight plans, weather, and traffic—in three compact views.
✦ Enhanced Synthetic Vision Technology (SVT™): Provides 3D renderings of terrain, obstacles, runways, and taxiway markings, giving pilots a clear view of their surroundings.
✦ Pathway rectangles provide pilots with a visual representation of an "aerial highway," outlining their flight path—including route segments, flight trajectories, and course intercepts.
✦ 3DSafeTaxi® presents an exocentric, 3D view of the airport environment directly on the pilot's PFD, reducing the risk of getting lost by providing clear, synchronized imagery of taxiways, runways, hangars, and surrounding structures.
The Multifunction Display (MFD) supports dynamic mapping, ADS-B traffic surveillance, weather data, terminal charts, and expanded engine parameters; each display features an HDMI video input for real-time feeds from onboard cameras.
02
Innovative Safety Features
AXIS incorporates a range of Garmin’s award-winning safety technologies:
AXIS supports numerous safety-enhancing technologies from Garmin. A dedicated emergency button on the display bezel allows pilots to quickly access specific emergency procedure options when needed. SmartGlide™ (part of Garmin Autonomí™ technology) assists pilots during a loss-of-power emergency by efficiently navigating the aircraft to a suitable airport within gliding range; if equipped with a GFC™ 500 or GFC 600 autopilot system, it can also automatically take control to fly the aircraft along the route.
Terminal safety solutions include the award-winning Runway Occupancy Awareness (ROA) system, which utilizes ADS-B traffic data to alert the flight crew to potential runway incursions caused by nearby airborne aircraft, taxiing aircraft, or ground vehicles. Additionally, the optional SurfaceWatch™ runway monitoring technology provides general situational awareness within the airport environment, along with visual and aural alerts to help prevent pilots from attempting takeoff or landing on a taxiway.
Engine Indication System (EIS)
The Engine Indication System (EIS) within AXIS provides real-time data to help better manage engine operations and protect the aircraft's engine. Large, prominent engine instruments feature color-coded pointers and data bands to indicate normal operating ranges, warnings, and exceedance conditions. Bar-style gauges display numerical values for enhanced precision. Through interface adapters and sensors, AXIS serves as the primary EIS display for piston-powered aircraft—compatible with most naturally aspirated or turbocharged 4- to 6-cylinder engines, as well as radial and turbine-powered experimental aircraft. After landing, flight and engine data logs can be automatically uploaded to flyGarmin.com via the Garmin Pilot™ app or the GDL® 60 datalink and PlaneSync™ service. Pilots can also choose to share these logs with analysis platforms like FlySto or SavvyAviation to gain deeper insights into engine health, maintenance updates, flight analysis, and more.
03
Comprehensive Connectivity
Built-in Wi-Fi and Bluetooth across the entire lineup enable in-flight connectivity with the Garmin Pilot app, sharing GPS position, traffic, weather, and flight plans;
✦ PlaneSync (via GDL 60 datalink): Automatic database downloads, remote aircraft status monitoring, and automatic flight log uploads (subscription required);
✦ USB-C high-speed data port: Supports onboard database downloads and log exports, while also providing up to 27W device charging;
✦ Database Concierge: Download update packages via the mobile app and wirelessly synchronize them with the onboard avionics.
04
Team X (Experimental Aircraft R&D): Streamlining the Modification Process
Garmin’s experimental aircraft R&D team, Team X, was involved throughout the AXIS development process. Comprising engineers, test pilots, and homebuilt aircraft enthusiasts, the team possesses a deep understanding of the challenges involved in modifying homebuilt aircraft.
AXIS offers a seamless upgrade path to replace the existing G3X Touch: existing sensors and wiring can be reused, and panel cutouts and mounting holes are compatible. With simplified wiring and built-in expansion I/O ports, installation is faster, and the system supports a wider range of aircraft models.
