Cessna 172 adds solid-state dual electronic ignition system

Recently, the trusted training aircraft, the Cessna 172, has received a major upgrade to its core systems! The Cessna 172 will feature dual electronic ignition systems (dual EIS), which will further improve the maintenance, efficiency and overall operation of this single-engine, high-wing piston aircraft. Dual Lycoming electronic ignition systems will become standard on all new production Cessna 172 aircraft!
The dual electronic ignition system will replace the 172's previous dual magneto ignition system, combining advanced electronics to reduce the number of internal moving parts to optimize operation. This solid-state electronic technology improves maintenance intervals, fuel efficiency and engine performance, ultimately reducing aircraft operating costs.
Lycoming Electronic Ignition Systems (EIS) meet the increasing performance requirements of modern aircraft designs, including less maintenance, less weight and better ignition control than traditional magnetos.
