Three-Piece Maintenance Kit for Aviation Spark Plugs
Proper routine maintenance of aviation engine spark plugs—using the right consumables and tools—can significantly reduce malfunctions and lower operational costs! Today, we’re introducing the "gold standard" three-piece maintenance kit from Tempest: the T556 anti-seize compound, the AT5K resistance tester, and the AA446 spark plug tray.

01
Tempest T556™ Thread Lubricant and Anti-Seize Compound
Many maintenance technicians have encountered issues with standard anti-seize compounds, which tend to clump and are difficult to apply. If such a compound accidentally migrates to the firing end of a spark plug, it can easily cause carbon buildup or even trigger pre-ignition. To address this, Tempest has introduced the all-new Tempest T556 spark plug anti-seize lubricant.
Part Number (P/N): T556
✅ All-new Tempest T556 formula
✅ Includes a dedicated brush for smooth, even application
✅ Non-drip formula—prevents migration to the firing end
✅ Provides complete thread coverage with a single application, preventing high-temperature thread seizure

Tempest AT5K™ Aviation Spark Plug Resistance Tester
The Tempest AT5K enables fast, accurate testing of spark plug resistance, with test results displayed instantly.

⚠️Note: The AT5K measures resistance only. It cannot replace other tests required to determine the condition of a spark plug.
Replacing the battery: Remove the back cover (see Figure 1).

Checking spark plug resistance is crucial; excessive resistance can lead to the following issues:
✅Difficulty starting the engine
✅Intermittent ignition or misfires, increased fuel consumption, and excessive exhaust emissions
✅Rough running (vibration) in turbocharged engines
✅Engine vibration under peak lean-mixture operating conditions
✅Engine vibration at high altitudes
✅Carbon fouling of spark plugs
✅Accumulation of carbon deposits and unburned fuel in the crankcase, leading to engine oil contamination
✅Increased electrical load on ignition leads, contacts, capacitors, and magnetos
✅Unnecessary and high maintenance costs for spark plugs
👉 Criteria: If resistance reaches 5000Ω, it is recommended to replace the spark plug!
✅ Resistance can be checked prior to installation, allowing for the early identification of defective new units.
★ Recommended for use with Tempest spark plugs, which feature an integrated solid-state resistor.
Part Number (P/N): AT5K

Tempest® AA446™ Spark plug placement tray
In hangar maintenance, the last thing you want is for a tray to tip over—a dropped spark plug is as good as ruined!
👍 This metal spark plug tray is built for stability and won’t easily tip over. It features rubber feet on the bottom, ensuring a secure grip on metal workbenches or toolboxes.
Part Number (P/N): AT5K
The slots are numbered, making it easy to keep spark plugs organized and manage their rotation.
📐 Dimensions: 8″ × 3.5″ × 2.5″; total height including the handle is 5 inches.
