        DME measures diagonal distances, not horizontal distances. When the aircraft's altitude is much smaller than the slant distance to the control console, the slant distance measured by the DME can be considered as the horizontal distance from the aircraft to the control console. The DME operates in the UHF band, with a frequency range of 962-1213 MHz. The effective coverage range of the DME is 200 nm, and within this range, the system's ranging error is no greater than 0.5 nm. The International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) stipulates that a DME can provide distance information for a maximum of 100 aircraft.
